The two students that I would like to teach my reading
lesson to Mary and Robby who are two fourth grade students. Mary is still at
the stage of developing the skills to read fluently and with comprehension.
When reading at times she will break apart the word to figure it out or just
skip the word altogether. Robby on the other hand has fluency when reading but
lacks prosody and comprehension. For my
lesson I have decided to focus on comprehension which both students need
further development in. This will be done through lesson one by stopping
throughout the book and asking questions about the plot, setting, characters
and see what the students can come up with. Working on predicting a story line and identifying the big ideas in the story. The second lesson will focus on
recalling the story and writing down a paragraph summary of the main events and
people in the story. Summarizing the story is a huge indicator of comprehension and understanding of the events that took place in the story.
